Luís Bernardo de Honwana
Mozambican writer, whose full name is Luís Augusto Bernardo Manuel, born in 1941, in Lourenço Marques (now Maputo). He lived in Moamba until the age of 17. Attended secondary school in that city, where he was also a journalist. Later he moved to Portugal, where he studied in the University of Porto. Honwana studied drawing and painting for some time and participated in art exhibitions. He published, in 1964, a book of tales entitled Nós Matamos o Cão Tinhoso (We Killed Mangy Dog and Other Stories), one of the most remarkable works in Mozambican literature.
