Mozambican President Joaquim Chissano inaugurated in Maputo on Friday the Strategic Analysis Centre (CAE) of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP), which task is to reasearch, study, analyse and classify different phenomena such as conflicts and international terrorism.
Comenting on the military manoeuvres, he said that this is in line with the prevention of clonflicts, particularly in periods after war.
Chissano added that it is in striving for peace and political stability in the CPLP member countries that one can see the efforts to bring about political and military normality in Sao Tome and Principe and Guinea-Bissau.
In his speech, Chissano stressed the need to continue political and diplomatic efforts to normalise life in the region of the Great Lakes and in all countries where armed conflicts are still waging, jeopardising the entire continent's political, social and economic stability.
He pointed out that this is why Mozambique, through its armed forces, was invited to take part in peace keeping operations, for instance in Burundi.
The idea of creating an analysis centre dates back to 1998. The necessary premises and furniture for the centre were provided by the Mozambican Defense ministry, while Portugal and Brazil contributed with computers and documents.
